The U.S.
Women's Open is returning to Pine Needles (left) this May
only
five years after visiting the Sandhills for the first
time. Add to that
the surprisingly quick return of the
men's equivalent to Pinehurst No. 2 in 2005
and there is
evidence that the Sandhills deserves its place in the
trilogy of golf.

New Courses
Born Again
Course
raters are singing the praises of a bumper crop
of new
courses that debuted in the past year. They include
redesigns of old favorites Pinehurst No. 4 (right) and Finley
Golf Course by noted architect Tom Fazio that are
sandwiched by a Greg Norman-designed gem that, fittingly,
sits on Lake Norman.

Harbors State's Finest
What makes
for the ultimate day on the golf course? It's different
things to different golfers,
and to our
panelists, nowhere are more of those things evident than
at the pristine
Old North
State Club on Badin Lake in New London.
Most Difficult Courses
`Even Tiger
Couldn't Beat It'
No less an
authority than legendary teacher Peggy Kirk Bell
knows
the perils that await
golfers at Pinehurst No. 2.
Donald Ross' masterpiece
challenges players with its length
and its greens, which require both skill and imagination.
Corporate Outings
Business
& Pleasure
There are
few better ways to get someone's undivided attention for
four or five
hours than
on a golf course. Companies are finding that such outings
are profitable
in the long
run, to which course owners couldn't agree more.
