Election
Leaves N.C.'s Congressional
Delegation Unchanged |
All
12 incumbent Members of Congress from North Carolina easily
won re-election, meaning the delegation will remain unchanged,
with seven Republicans and five Democrats.
Some of the incumbents faced no substantial challengers. Fifth
District Cong. Richard Burr and Sixth District Cong. Howard
Coble, both Republicans, had no Democratic opposition.
Republican Cong.
Robin Hayes had a surprisingly comfortable margin of victory
over Democratic opponent Mike Taylor in the Eighth District
race. The same was true in the Eleventh District, where
incumbent Republican Charles Taylor easily defeated Democrat
Sam Neill.
Both of those incumbents were viewed as vulnerable in the
weeks leading up to the election. The races attracted lots of
soft money from Democratic interests.
