Bob
Scott:
“I’m going
just as much as ever — going to funerals and going to
hospitals.”
“I don’t think Gov. Easley wants Bob Scott up in Haw River
trying to second-guess him.”
Jim Holshouser:
“Polls are pretty good, but they don’t penetrate your
conscience.”
“The state government’s fiscal policy is in the ditch. It
is going to require cuts like we have never seen before in the
state budget.”
Jim Martin:
“Gov. Easley is going to have to really bear down on his
agencies — to work assiduously to make these things work. I
feel fairly strongly that he is not going to be very attracted
to a tax increase.”
“As much as we need the money, we just have to wait until
the economy turns around and picks up steam, and then do some
of the things we need.”
Jim Hunt:
“Candidates don’t get out to listen to people like they
used to — they’re on the phone trying to raise money.”
“I think the people of this state really want us to stay
committed to improving our schools and our colleges and our
universities. There are going to have to be some pretty deep
cuts. But don’t cut education.”
