Business Court

Position:  NCCBI supported the establishment of a North Carolina business court and continues to support adequate funding for that court to accomplish the purposes for which it was established.

Explanation:  The General Assembly has established a business court having statewide jurisdiction over complex business litigation. The development of a stable, consistent body of case law regarding business litigation issues is important to the continued development of a strong economy here in North Carolina. To the extent that inadequate funding causes a backlog of cases in the business court resulting from inadequate staffing, the business court is not allowed to serve its purpose. Having taken the steps to create the business court, the General Assembly should adequately fund the court to enable the court to do the job for which it was created.
